Southampton Punished After “Top-Down” Spy Scandal Authorised by Head Coach
Posted : 22 May 2026
Southampton’s spying on rival clubs was authorised by head coach Tonda Eckert as part of a “top-down” plan, according to an independent disciplinary commission.
The commission condemned the use of junior staff for covert surveillance, calling the actions “deplorable” and a serious breach of competition integrity.
As a result, Southampton were expelled from the Championship play-offs and handed a four-point deduction for the 2026–27 season.
