Mexico have appointed former captain Rafael Márquez as head coach following their dramatic 3-2 defeat to England in the FIFA World Cup round of 16 at the Estadio Azteca.
The 47-year-old succeeds Javier Aguirre as part of the Mexican Football Federation's long-term succession plan after serving as his assistant throughout the tournament.
Márquez, who previously coached Barcelona's reserve side, has been tasked with building on the progress made under Aguirre and leading Mexico into the 2030 World Cup cycle.
