Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz Sidelined for Weeks with Ankle Injury

Bayer Leverkusen confirmed that midfielder Florian Wirtz will be out for several weeks due to a medial ligament injury in his right ankle, ruling him out of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

 
 The 21-year-old suffered the injury in a 2-0 loss to Werder Bremen, dealing a major setback to Xabi Alonso’s squad as they seek a comeback from a 3-0 first-leg deficit.

 
Wirtz is also expected to miss Germany’s UEFA Nations League quarterfinals against Italy, though Leverkusen hopes to have him back for the season's final stretch.
