Diego Forlán Set for Interim Uruguay Coaching Role After World Cup Exit
Posted : 13 July 2026
Former Uruguay striker Diego Forlán is in advanced talks to become the national team's interim head coach following Marcelo Bielsa's departure after the country's group-stage exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Forlán is expected to oversee Uruguay's next six international friendlies and the Under-20 team while the Uruguayan Football Association searches for a permanent manager.
The 2010 World Cup Golden Ball winner said to be enthusiastic about the opportunity, despite having limited coaching experience since retiring as a player in 2019.
