Chelsea fined £10.75m, handed suspended transfer ban

Posted : 16 March 2026

Chelsea have accepted a record fine of £10.75 million from the Premier League for breaches of financial reporting and regulatory rules tied to undisclosed payments made between 2011 and 2018, the league announced on Monday.

As part of the sanctions, the club has received a suspended one‑year first‑team transfer ban — set to take effect only if further breaches occur — and an immediate nine‑month ban on academy player registrations.

The infractions were brought to light after the club’s current owners voluntarily self‑reported the issues during their 2022 takeover, and the Premier League noted Chelsea’s cooperation helped mitigate the severity of the penalties.
