Reddit Founder Alexis Ohanian Invests in Chelsea Women’s Team

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has acquired an 8-10% stake in Chelsea Women’s Super League champions, a deal reportedly valued at around £20 million. As part of the investment, Ohanian will join the club’s board, signaling his ongoing commitment to supporting women’s sports. He shared the news on social media, expressing his enthusiasm for helping Chelsea grow into a favorite team among American fans and beyond.

 
Ohanian has a history of investing in women’s football, previously holding the largest share in Angel City FC, a US-based club that was sold in 2024 for a record £192.3 million, the highest price paid for a women’s sports team at that time.

 
 His involvement in Chelsea marks a continuation of his dedication to advancing the women’s game. With an estimated net worth of $150 million, Ohanian is also invested in the TGL Golf League, demonstrating a broad interest in sports ventures.

 
The £20 million investment suggests that Chelsea Women’s team is valued at approximately £200 million, consistent with the valuation when the team was transferred between Chelsea FC Holdings and a sister company earlier this year to comply with financial regulations. This move comes amid recent leadership changes, including the appointment of Aki Mandhar as the first dedicated CEO for the women’s side.

 
Chelsea Women have enjoyed an exceptional season, securing their sixth consecutive WSL title while setting records as the first team to go unbeaten in a 22-game league campaign and earning 60 points. They also lifted the Women’s League Cup in March and are aiming for a domestic treble with an upcoming Women’s FA Cup final against Manchester United.

 
Although their Champions League run ended in the semi-finals against Barcelona, the club continues to build on its domestic dominance, with Ohanian and his wife, Serena Williams, expected to attend the Wembley final.
