Marc Cucurella Honors World Cup Promise with Tattoo of Spain Coach Luis de la Fuente

Spain defender Marc Cucurella has fulfilled one of the most memorable promises from the 2026 FIFA World Cup by getting a tattoo of head coach Luis de la Fuente following the nation's title-winning campaign. The left-back unveiled the new artwork on social media, featuring a portrait of De la Fuente holding the World Cup trophy alongside the number 26, accompanied by the caption: "Promise kept."

Cucurella had vowed before the tournament that he would permanently honour his coach if Spain lifted the trophy. The promise became reality after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final, with Cucurella playing a key role throughout the tournament as one of the team's most consistent performers.

Following Spain's triumph, De la Fuente jokingly expressed confidence that his player would follow through with the pledge. The coach laughed off the unusual tribute, saying he was proud that his players kept their promises and adding that he hoped his image would be displayed somewhere visible rather than hidden away.

The tattoo is the latest example of Cucurella's unique traditions during major tournaments. Throughout Spain's victorious World Cup campaign, he carried his wife's pyjama top as a lucky charm, while he has also explained that he keeps his trademark long, curly hair because it helps his child easily spot him on the pitch during matches.

Cucurella recently completed a move to Real Madrid after leaving Chelsea and now begins a new chapter in his club career with a permanent reminder of Spain's World Cup success and the coach who guided La Roja to international glory.
