Lady Cathy Ferguson, the wife of the former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has passed away at the age of 84.
 
In a statement released on Friday, Manchester United conveyed their deepest condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family, acknowledging the profound loss of Lady Cathy. She was not only a cherished wife but also a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Throughout Sir Alex's illustrious career, Lady Cathy stood as a pillar of unwavering support and strength.
 
As a gesture of respect and remembrance, the Manchester United players will wear black armbands during their game against Brentford on Saturday.
 
Sir Alex Ferguson retired from his managerial role at Manchester United in 2013, concluding a remarkable tenure that spanned over 26 years. His decision to retire was in part driven by his desire to spend more time with Cathy and his family.
 
In tribute to Lady Cathy, flags at Old Trafford were lowered to half-staff, and Manchester United's women's team also honored her memory by wearing black armbands during their match against Arsenal on Friday.
