England captain Harry Kane signs Skechers sponsorship deal

Posted : 28 August 2023

Harry Kane, the England captain who completed a high-profile move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich for $86 million this summer, has opted for a switch in sponsorship. Kane has parted ways with Nike and entered into a new partnership agreement with Skechers, a rival brand. The renowned British footballer's contract details with Skechers remain undisclosed, but it's described as a "lifetime cooperation" deal. Kane is expected to debut Skechers footwear during Bayern's match against Werder Bremen on Friday.

Skechers, the third-largest shoe manufacturer by revenue in the United States, has recently made its foray into football with the introduction of the SKX shoe. This shoe is built on what the company claims is revolutionary technology unlike any other. The SKX shoe is set to be available for purchase in September through online channels and select stores across Europe.

Harry Kane explained his decision to his Instagram followers, which number around 15 million. He shared that Skechers had approached him with a compelling vision for their involvement in football. Kane was impressed by the brand's approach, the innovation in their shoes, and expressed his excitement about joining forces with them. He views this collaboration as a new chapter with fresh footwear leading the way, and he's eager to explore its potential.

Although Skechers has not explicitly stated the rationale behind entering the soccer market, the timing aligns with the sport's schedule. The upcoming 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This global event has likely influenced Skechers' interest in venturing into soccer, as it presents an opportunity to tap into the growing soccer fanbase, particularly in the United States.
