Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has become the latest high-profile footballer to have his home targeted by burglars after intruders broke into his property in Cheshire while he was in Italy for his club’s Champions League fixture against Como. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, with police confirming that several items were stolen from the residence.
According to reports, Cheshire Police received information about suspicious activity at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time after three unidentified men were reportedly seen in the rear garden of a neighbouring property in the Nether Alderley area. Officers subsequently attended the location but found that the suspects had already fled.
Police discovered evidence of a burglary at the property and confirmed that a number of items were missing. Detective Inspector Dave Jarvis said an investigation had been launched and officers were working to identify those responsible. Authorities have also appealed to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
Fortunately, Fernandes and his family were not at home when the break-in occurred. Manchester United reportedly confirmed that the midfielder’s family were away from the property and that the intruders spent less than five minutes inside before police arrived. The club is supporting the Portuguese international following the incident and has requested privacy for him and his family.
The burglary happened on a difficult evening for the 32-year-old, who had travelled to Italy with Manchester United for their European encounter against Como. United suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat, extending their winless run across all competitions to seven matches.
Fernandes also attracted attention after the game for publicly questioning the team’s tactical approach under manager Michael Carrick. The United captain suggested that the side needed to be more courageous in pressing opponents and applying pressure higher up the pitch. His comments added to the scrutiny surrounding the club following another disappointing result.
The incident is the latest in a series of burglaries involving properties belonging to prominent footballers in the Cheshire area. Manchester City defender Rúben Dias and former Manchester City players Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez have also previously been linked to similar incidents involving their homes.
Police investigations into the Fernandes burglary remain ongoing, and authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the break-in and locate the suspects. No arrests were reported in the initial accounts of the incident.
