Bissouma Issues Apology Following Fresh Nitrous Oxide Allegations

Posted : 14 December 2025

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has issued a public apology to the club’s supporters after images emerged showing him allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide, a substance classified as a Class C drug in the United Kingdom.

The Mali international admitted the incident had deeply affected him and acknowledged the damage it has caused to his image as a professional footballer.

The 29-year-old, who has yet to make an appearance for Spurs this season, disclosed that recent personal challenges have taken a significant toll on his mental well-being.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank confirmed last week that the club has launched an internal investigation following the circulation of videos allegedly showing the midfielder using the substance.

Nitrous oxide was reclassified as a Class C drug in 2023 under the UK government’s anti-social behaviour legislation, making recreational possession illegal.

This latest controversy marks the second time Bissouma has been linked to the substance, having previously served a club suspension for a similar incident last year.

Speaking candidly in an interview, Bissouma expressed regret over his actions, stating that the episode had deeply shaken him. He apologised to fans and admitted the situation affected not only himself but also his family. He stressed that he understood the seriousness of the matter and recognised that his conduct fell short of the standards expected of a professional athlete.

Bissouma also revealed that a series of burglaries at his home had left him feeling unsafe and emotionally drained.

According to the midfielder, the incidents forced him to relocate and, at times, sleep at Tottenham’s training facility due to fear and anxiety. He explained that the emotional strain was compounded by concerns over his father’s health, leading him to seek frequent support from mental health professionals.

While acknowledging that personal struggles do not excuse his behaviour, Bissouma said he hoped people could better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. He reaffirmed his commitment to regaining focus, improving his well-being, and restoring trust both on and off the pitch.
