Zverev Targets World No. 1 Ranking in 2025, Prioritizes Health

Posted : 27 December 2024

Alexander Zverev is focused on starting his 2025 season strong with the goal of reaching world No. 1, but he emphasized that staying healthy is just as important. The German, currently ranked No. 2, will kick off his campaign on Sunday when Germany faces Brazil in the United Cup, a mixed-teams tournament leading up to the Australian Open. Zverev, who is more than 3,000 ranking points behind world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, is feeling confident after recent victories at the Rome and Paris Masters 1000 events.

Despite his recent success, Zverev remains ambitious, stating that while his recent results are "satisfying," he is not content and has bigger goals ahead. The 27-year-old reflected on the challenges he faced after suffering a serious ankle ligament injury during the 2022 French Open semifinals, which put his career in jeopardy. "I was one match away from world No. 1 before the injury," he said, acknowledging the uncertainty he faced about his ability to return to top form.

Zverev has proven his resilience, making it to the French Open final last June and remains determined to improve his Grand Slam performances. He aims to surpass his previous semifinals appearances at the Australian Open in 2020 and 2023. While he is focused on achieving his career goals, his main priority remains staying fit and healthy as he continues his pursuit of major titles.
