Top seed Alexander Zverev produced a strong comeback performance on Friday to defeat Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo and secure his place in the semifinals of the Munich ATP tournament. After dropping the opening set, the German regained control to win 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 and continue his pursuit of another title on home soil.
Zverev started the match confidently and even built a commanding lead in the first set, but momentum shifted as Cerúndolo fought back to take control and edge ahead. However, once the second set began, the German quickly rediscovered his rhythm, responding with dominant tennis and overwhelming his opponent for the remainder of the match.
With the support of the home crowd, Zverev tightened his game significantly, conceding just two games across the final two sets. The victory was especially notable as it marked his first win over Cerúndolo on clay after previously struggling in their head-to-head meetings on the surface.
The three-time Munich champion, who also lifted the trophy in 2017, 2018, and last year, remains in contention for a record fourth title at the event. He will now face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, who earlier secured his semifinal place with a straight-sets win over Vit Kopriva.
