The race for the Zenith Bank 2026 Team Tennis Tournament title has entered its decisive stage, with four teams securing semifinal berths after three days of intense competition at Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos.
Prestige Banking Team and Diaspora Banking Team emerged as the leading sides from the Red Group, while Zenith Aspire Team and Zenith Zeca Team secured the two qualifying positions in the Blue Group.
Prestige Banking Team finished top of the Red Group with 80 points, narrowly ahead of Diaspora Banking Team, which accumulated 76 points.
In the Blue Group, Zenith Aspire Team claimed first position with 78 points, while Zenith Zeca Team finished second on 74 points.
The semifinal fixtures scheduled for today will see group winners Prestige Banking Team face Zenith Zeca Team, while Zenith Aspire Team will take on Diaspora Banking Team for the remaining place in the final.
The competition will be decided through a best-of-three format comprising two singles and three doubles matches. Each singles victory is worth two points, while a doubles win carries three points.
Chairman of the Tennis Section, Victor Onyenkpa, believes tactical planning and the ability of teams to select effective playing combinations could prove decisive in the semifinal battles.
According to him, the closely matched nature of the qualifying teams means that individual talent alone may not determine who advances to the final.
“These fixtures are too close to call, as in every good tournament. These four teams have shown that they know how to strategize and compete, to get the desired results,” Onyenkpa said.
He added that the prospect of reaching the final would motivate every player to deliver their best performance.
“I am excited at the tennis spectacle that we will be witnessing this evening, and wish all the teams the best of luck,” he said.
With only two places in the final at stake, spectators at Ikoyi Club 1938 are set for another evening of competitive tennis as the four surviving teams battle for championship glory.
