Valentin Vacherot captured the Swiss Indoors Basel title on Sunday after producing an impressive comeback to defeat Jiri Lehecka in three sets.
The Monegasque recovered from a difficult start to secure a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory in the final, earning his first trophy of the 2026 season and the second ATP Tour title of his career. His previous triumph came at the Shanghai Masters in 2025.
Lehecka dominated the opening set, breaking Vacherot's serve three times to establish an early advantage. The Czech looked comfortable on court and appeared capable of repeating his previous victory over the Monegasque in their Tokyo meeting earlier in October.
However, Vacherot gradually found his rhythm and changed the direction of the contest. He improved his serving and became more effective in the crucial exchanges, taking the second set 6-3 to level the match.
The 27-year-old maintained his momentum in the deciding set, securing another 6-3 victory to complete the turnaround. Despite facing pressure from Lehecka, Vacherot saved all five break points he encountered across the final two sets.
He eventually converted his first championship point to seal the victory and celebrate a memorable title in Basel.
Speaking after the match, Vacherot praised his ability to remain composed during difficult moments. He explained that improving his serve in the final set helped him gain control, while delivering quality shots at important stages proved decisive.
The victory capped an outstanding week for Vacherot, who defeated several highly ranked opponents on his way to the championship. His run included victories over Rafael Jodar and Taylor Fritz, further highlighting the quality of his performance in Switzerland.
For Lehecka, the defeat extended his disappointing record in ATP Tour finals. The 24-year-old has now lost seven of his nine championship matches, including his last five appearances in finals.
Vacherot's Basel success also places him among a select group of players, alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, to have won both the Shanghai Masters and Swiss Indoors titles.
