Stefanos Tsitsipas secured his first ATP title in nearly a year with a dominant 6-3, 6-3 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Dubai final. The Greek, who had struggled in ATP 500 finals, finally ended his losing streak at this level after falling short in his previous 11 attempts.
His triumph was particularly satisfying as he had lost two previous finals in Dubai, to Roger Federer in 2019 and Novak Djokovic in 2020. Tsitsipas expressed relief at breaking the curse, stating that lifting the trophy after multiple failed attempts was a significant accomplishment.
The fourth-seeded Tsitsipas controlled the match with a strong baseline game, never dropping serve despite facing break points twice in each set. He broke Auger-Aliassime in the seventh and ninth games of the first set before sealing the match with a decisive break in the eighth game of the second.
Auger-Aliassime had been in impressive form leading up to the final, having won titles in Adelaide and Montpellier earlier in the season, but he struggled against Tsitsipas' consistency and aggression. After the match, Tsitsipas acknowledged the challenge posed by his opponent and expressed pride in handling the pressure effectively.
With this victory, Tsitsipas will return to the ATP top 10, moving up to ninth in the rankings. Once ranked as high as No. 3 in early 2023, he had slipped to 11th but is now back among the elite. Reflecting on his resurgence, he highlighted the sacrifices and effort required to maintain a place at the top of the sport.
"Owning a spot in the top 10 is one of the greatest feelings a tennis player can experience," he said, emphasizing the hard work that goes into achieving such milestones.
