Tatjana Maria Reaches Queen’s Final in Historic Run, Set to Face Amanda Anisimova

Posted : 14 June 2025

Tatjana Maria has described her remarkable journey to the Queen's final as a "dream come true" after the 37-year-old German stunned Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in the semi-finals.

Entering the tournament on a nine-match losing streak, Maria defied expectations by advancing to her first WTA 500 final and becoming the oldest woman to do so. The world number 86, who came through qualifying and defeated three top-20 players along the way, credited her enduring passion for tennis as the driving force behind her performance.

Maria, a mother of two, emphasized the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. “You always have to keep going. You never can stop, [it] doesn’t matter how it goes,” she said. “I love to play tennis, I love the sport and we live for these special moments.” Her run has captivated fans and added a historic layer to this year’s tournament, which has not seen a women’s singles champion at Queen’s for over half a century.

In Sunday’s final, Maria will meet eighth seed Amanda Anisimova, who overcame Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen in a fiercely contested three-set battle, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. The American powered through a grueling match to book her place in her first grass-court final, setting up a compelling clash between experience and youth.

With both women eyeing their place in the history books, the Queen’s final promises a memorable conclusion to the tournament.
