Stefanos Tsitsipas Ends Title Drought with Dubai Championships Victory

Posted : 03 March 2025

After nearly a year without a title, Stefanos Tsitsipas returned to winning ways at the Dubai Championships, securing his first ATP 500 trophy in an extended drought. Playing with a new, unidentified racket, the 26-year-old Greek overcame Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final, completing an impressive run that also saw him defeat Lorenzo Sonego, Karen Khachanov, Matteo Berrettini, and Tallon Griekspoor.

His triumph in Dubai propelled him back into the ATP top 10 for the first time since May, marking a significant turnaround in his season.

Tsitsipas, once ranked as high as No. 3, had struggled with form in recent months, suffering early exits in the last two Grand Slams. His usually reliable all-court game lost its edge, and losses to lower-ranked opponents began to pile up.

However, switching to a blacked-out racket—often a sign of testing new equipment—seemed to provide the boost he needed, helping him rediscover his power and control. Reflecting on the change, he noted that comfort was a key factor and that adapting to evolving conditions on tour was essential for maintaining a competitive edge.

Looking ahead, Tsitsipas will set his sights on success at the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami tournaments before turning his attention to the European clay court season.

The Greek star emphasized the importance of continuous improvement, acknowledging that making changes is sometimes necessary to break out of stagnation. Buoyed by his victory, he expressed optimism about the impact of his equipment switch and the renewed energy it has brought to his game.
