Sinner Beats Auger-Aliassime to Set Up Thrilling US Open Final Against Alcaraz

Posted : 06 September 2025

Jannik Sinner secured a hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the US Open semifinals on Friday, earning a place in the final against Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian world No. 1, despite occasional misfires, showcased resilience to reach his third consecutive Grand Slam final.

By doing so, Sinner became only the fourth man in the Open Era to contest all four major finals in a single season, joining the likes of Rod Laver, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.

Sinner reflected on the victory, praising his opponent and the atmosphere at Arthur Ashe Stadium. “Felix and I played in the last tournament in Cincinnati. He was serving much better, hitting every shot much better, so it was a tough match, but I’m very happy,” Sinner said.

Auger-Aliassime managed to level the match in the second set and pushed the Italian hard in the third, but Sinner found his rhythm to secure the win after a medical timeout.

The upcoming final promises to be another chapter in Sinner’s rivalry with Alcaraz, who earlier dismantled Novak Djokovic in his semifinal. The pair have already faced off in three majors this year, with Alcaraz taking the French Open and Sinner the Wimbledon title. “We’re two different players now with different confidence,” Sinner said. “I’m looking forward to doing it again.”

In women’s doubles, Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe claimed their second US Open title together, defeating top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova 6-4, 6-4. Dabrowski’s triumph is especially poignant, coming after her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment last year. Both Dabrowski and Routliffe have faced injuries, including fractured ribs, making the victory a testament to their resilience and teamwork.

Dabrowski described the win as the culmination of a “wild ride” and praised their coaching team and support system. Townsend, who finished runner-up, humorously noted she might repurpose her silver trophy as a charcuterie board, highlighting the duo’s sportsmanship despite the defeat.
