Jannik Sinner believes he is fully prepared to handle the rising temperatures expected during the second week of Wimbledon as he continues his title defence at the All England Club.
Temperatures in London are forecast to climb above 30 degrees Celsius after an intense heatwave swept across the United Kingdom last week. Despite concerns over the conditions, the world No. 1 remains confident that he has taken the necessary steps to cope with the heat.
Sinner has experienced physical struggles in hot conditions earlier this season. The Italian battled through cramps during the Australian Open in January before enduring another difficult spell in the high temperatures at the French Open, where his campaign ended in the second round.
Following his straight-sets victory over Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki in the fourth round, Sinner said he and his team had worked hard to improve his preparation for similar conditions.
"I'm well prepared. We did a good preparation," Sinner said. "Whatever happened in the past is gone already. Now we'll see if we found a solution. If not, we keep working for the next one."
The defending champion will face Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in the Wimbledon quarter-finals as he continues his pursuit of a second consecutive title at the tournament.
When asked whether he preferred playing during the hottest part of the day or later in the evening, Sinner avoided discussing the schedule and insisted he was comfortable regardless of when he is called onto the court.
Sinner said reaching the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam naturally brings greater pressure but also provides extra motivation. He believes maintaining the right mentality will be just as important as dealing with the physical demands of the weather.
"The quarter-final of a Grand Slam, the feelings are different," he said. "There's definitely more tension. At the same time, I'm very happy where I am at the moment."
The four-time Grand Slam champion added that his focus remains on controlling the aspects of his game that he can influence while adapting to any challenges that arise during the match.
Sinner has looked increasingly comfortable throughout the tournament, dropping only one set on his way to the last eight. His convincing win over Mochizuki reinforced his status as one of the favourites to lift the Wimbledon trophy once again.
Victory over Struff would send the Italian into the semi-finals as he continues his bid to add another Grand Slam title to his growing collection.
