Jannik Sinner makes history with Indian Wells triumph

Posted : 16 March 2026

Italian world number two Jannik Sinner etched his name into tennis history with a commanding straight‑sets win over Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2026 Indian Wells tournament. Sinner secured the title with 7‑6(8‑6), 7‑6(7‑4) victory in a tightly contested match played in challenging conditions in California.

At just 24 years old, Sinner did not face a break point throughout the final and only dropped four points on his first serve, underscoring his dominance on court. The victory marked his first title of the year and his 25th overall, but more importantly, it completed his collection of elite hard‑court achievements.

With this win, Sinner became the youngest man ever to win all six ATP Masters 1000 titles on hard courts, joining legends Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in that exclusive group. His hard‑court success also includes multiple Grand Slam victories, notably at the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as strong performances across the ATP Tour.

Medvedev, despite the loss, will re‑enter the top 10 in the ATP rankings following his run to the final, which included a notable semi‑final win over world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner’s impressive campaign in the Californian desert, where he did not drop a set, highlighted both his technical prowess and mental resilience, particularly in crucial tiebreak situations. The result not only solidifies his status among today’s elite players but also places him firmly in the conversation as one of the leading figures of his generation.
