Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori Retain French Open Mixed Doubles Championship

Posted : 05 June 2026

Top seeds Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori successfully defended their mixed doubles crown at Roland Garros. The Italian pair produced an excellent comeback on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Thursday afternoon. They defeated the unseeded duo of American Evan King and Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski 4-6, 6-3, 10-4. This historic victory confirms their position as the most dominant mixed doubles partnership in modern tennis.

King and Dabrowski started the championship match with aggressive baseline play; consequently, they broke the Italian serve early to capture the opening set. Errani and Vavassori responded by raising their first-serve percentage in the second set; they controlled the tempo of the rallies to level the match. The reigning champions completely dominated the deciding match tie-break. They raced to an early advantage and closed out the final in 79 minutes.

The triumph marks a significant historical milestone for the veteran Italian combination. They are the first mixed doubles team to secure back-to-back French Open titles since Ivan Dodig and Latisha Chan achieved the feat in 2019. Furthermore, this victory represents their fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles championship as a pair. This remarkable run includes their consecutive US Open titles across the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Errani expressed her joy during the post-match presentation ceremony, stating that she feels like she is living a never-ending dream. King graciously praised his opponents during his on-court speech; he acknowledged that the Italian team is simply too good on clay. The defeat marks the second consecutive year that King has finished as the runner-up in Paris. He lost the 2025 final alongside American partner Taylor Townsend.

Dabrowski will quickly shift her focus back to the clay courts as she hunts for a different trophy. The Canadian athlete is scheduled to compete in the women's doubles semi-finals later this week. She will partner with Brazil's Luisa Stefani to face top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend. Meanwhile, Errani and Vavassori leave the French capital having firmly cemented their legacy in the history books.
