2025 VEMP: Sani-Inabo, Jeremiah Advance to Men’s Doubles Quarter-Finals

Posted : 09 July 2025

Yahaya Sani-Inabo and Benjamin Jeremiah have progressed to the men’s doubles quarter-finals of the 2025 VEMP National Open Tennis Championship currently underway at the National Tennis Centre, Package B, of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The duo opened their campaign on Court 4 with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6(5) victory over the pair of John David and Godgift Timibra in the round of 16.

The first set remained evenly poised at 2-2 before Sani-Inabo and Jeremiah broke serve to take control, eventually closing the set 6-4. The second set was fiercely contested and ended in a 6-6 deadlock, prompting a tiebreak. The duo held their nerve, securing two set points at 6-5 and clinching the match 7-6(5) to move into the next round.

In the quarter-finals, Sani-Inabo and Jeremiah will face Daniel Adeleye and Abubakar Yusuf, who advanced after a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Endurance Ehiegiamusoe and Saidu Sani-Inabo.

Speaking after the match, Benjamin Jeremiah expressed satisfaction with the result:

“The game was fine and we won. This is my first time playing in this particular doubles event, although I’ve previously competed in senior tournaments. I didn’t go far in the singles as I was eliminated in the qualifying round.”

Sani-Inabo was also grateful for the outcome:

“I thank God for the win. It wasn’t easy getting to the next stage. I hope to stay focused and take it one match at a time. My next singles match is against Endurance Ehiegiamusoe, and I’m hopeful for a win.”

In other doubles results, several teams also booked their quarter-final spots:

  • Daniel Adeleye and Abubakar Yusuf defeated Endurance Ehiegiamusoe and Saidu Sani-Inabo 6-1, 6-2.
  • Lucky Danjuma and Mubarak Ganiyu won 6-1, 4-1 (Retired) against Ezekiel Azi and Dahiru Mohammed.
  • Canice Abua and Musa Mohammed beat Terry Akuchu and Charles Uwandu 6-1, 6-1.
  • In a tightly contested encounter, Mathew Abamu and Emmanuel Michael edged Chima Michael and Ikechukwu Iloputa 6-0, 6-7 (4), 10-7.

A total of 192 players are competing in the ongoing VEMP National Open Tennis Championship, which features men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, and women’s doubles events. The tournament began on July 4 and is scheduled to conclude on July 12.
