Sabalenka, Rybakina Set for Third Final Clash at Indian Wells

Posted : 14 March 2026

Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina are set to meet in the Indian Wells final on Sunday, marking their third final clash in just over four months. Sabalenka, the world number one, secured her spot by defeating Czech player Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-4. Rybakina, ranked third in the world, overcame Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 7-5, 6-4 to reach the championship match.

“It feels great,” Sabalenka said after her win. “I’ve lost a couple of finals here, so I’ll make sure that I’m more than ready on Sunday. I’ll bring my best tennis, and this is the year.”

Rybakina holds the edge in their recent finals, winning four of their five previous encounters, including victories at the WTA Finals in November and the Australian Open in January.

“I’m going to fight as much as I can. Hopefully it’s going to be a great match,” the Kazakhstani said. She also defeated Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final in 2023.

Sunday’s final will be Sabalenka’s 14th appearance in a WTA 1000 final.

Off the court, Sabalenka commented on a controversial hindrance call involving Jack Draper and Daniil Medvedev during the men’s quarterfinals. Draper was penalized after allegedly distracting Medvedev, who later requested a video review.

Sabalenka criticized the procedure, saying players should stop play immediately if they feel hindered rather than finishing the point first. “If you really got bothered, then you should stop immediately and ask for the video review,” she said. “I don’t really think that’s the way it should be.”
