Sabalenka Dominates Potapova to Reach Italian Open Third Round

Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the third round of the Italian Open with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win over Anastasia Potapova on Friday. The world number one and last year’s runner-up needed just over an hour to dispatch her Russian opponent at the Foro Italico, showcasing her dominance on clay.

 

 Her consistent performance continues a strong run that has seen her reach the finals in four consecutive tournaments.

 

Next, Sabalenka will face Sofia Kenin, who progressed with a convincing straight-sets win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, defeating the Russian 6-3, 6-0.

 

Sabalenka has been in impressive form this season, securing WTA 1000 titles in both Miami and Madrid, further cementing her place at the top of the rankings. Her clash with Kenin promises to be a key highlight in the upcoming rounds.

 

Meanwhile, in the men’s draw, third seed Carlos Alcaraz begins his campaign for a maiden Rome title against Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic. Defending champion Alexander Zverev will also take to the court as he faces Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina, hoping to build on last year’s success at the tournament.
