Rybakina Crushes Fernandez to Defend Ningbo Open Title

World No. 1 Elena Rybakina secured her fourth title of the season with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory over Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the Ningbo Open final on Sunday. The win also allowed Rybakina to successfully defend her title and claim the 15th WTA singles crown of her career.

The top-seeded Kazakh dominated the contest, breaking Fernandez’s serve twice in each set while keeping her own serve intact. She established control in the opening set with aggressive groundstrokes and a series of well-placed shots that left her opponent struggling to respond.

After taking the first set in less than 40 minutes, Rybakina continued to apply pressure in the second. Fernandez attempted to fight back, but the defending champion saved two break points in the fourth game before breaking again to establish a 5-2 lead. Rybakina then sealed the title with a powerful forehand winner on her first championship point.

The victory capped another remarkable season for Rybakina, whose other titles this year came at the Australian Open, Stuttgart and US Open. Her latest triumph further strengthened her position at the top of the women’s game as she looks to finish the season as world No. 1.

Rybakina had missed the Wuhan Open earlier in October because of a foot injury, but her performance in Ningbo demonstrated her ability to return to winning form. She has now won eight consecutive matches at the tournament, having also lifted the trophy last year.

Fernandez, ranked 30th in the world, was seeking her second title in as many months after winning in Singapore in September. Despite falling short in the final, the Canadian enjoyed a strong week in Ningbo and will look to carry that momentum into the remaining tournaments of the season.
