Novak Djokovic Draws on Cincinnati Memories Ahead of US Open

Posted : 14 August 2026

Novak Djokovic is returning to the Cincinnati Masters with plenty of positive memories, having won the tournament three times during his illustrious career. The 38-year-old is using the event as his only official preparation tournament before the US Open begins on August 30.

Djokovic's connection with Cincinnati stretches back to 2005, when he made his Masters 1000 main-draw debut at the tournament as an 18-year-old qualifier. He eventually became champion in 2018, 2020 and 2023, with his most recent triumph coming after an epic three-set final against Carlos Alcaraz.

The Serbian described his return as a chance to revisit some of the best moments of his career. His 2023 victory over Alcaraz lasted three hours and 49 minutes, making it the longest best-of-three ATP Tour final at the time and one of the most memorable matches of his career.

Djokovic enters this year's tournament after last competing at Wimbledon, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. With Sinner withdrawing from Cincinnati because of a knee problem and Alcaraz sidelined by a wrist injury, Djokovic has a stronger opportunity to challenge for a fourth title.

The veteran is 14-5 in 2026 and remains without a title this season. With his schedule becoming more selective as his career progresses, Cincinnati represents an important opportunity to regain competitive sharpness before the final Grand Slam of the year.
