Novak Djokovic Begins Quest for 25th Grand Slam as Wimbledon 2025 Enters Day Two

Posted : 01 July 2025

As Wimbledon 2025 swings into its second day, the spotlight shines brightly on several tennis heavyweights, with Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Barbora Krejcikova all stepping onto the grass courts of the All England Club.

Novak Djokovic, now 38 years old, begins his campaign for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title. The Serbian legend, who last triumphed at a major during the 2023 US Open, remains tied with Margaret Court at 24 titles. Despite the emergence of a dominant younger generation, including two-time defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Djokovic still sees Wimbledon as his best opportunity to make history.

“I would probably agree that Wimbledon could be the best chance because of the results I had, because of how I feel, how I play in Wimbledon,” Djokovic said. With seven Wimbledon titles to his name already, one more would see him equal Roger Federer’s record of eight men’s singles titles at the tournament. Djokovic opens his campaign against France’s Alexandre Muller, a player he easily defeated in their previous meeting at the 2023 US Open.

Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner, now ranked world No. 1, enters the tournament eager to affirm his status as a top contender on grass. The Italian star is seeking his first Wimbledon title after strong showings in recent years, including a semifinal appearance in 2023. Despite an early exit from the Halle grass-court event, Sinner remains confident heading into his first-round clash against fellow Italian Luca Nardi. “I feel like I'm playing great tennis on grass,” said the 23-year-old. “Hopefully I can show this also in the match court.”

On the women’s side, defending champion Barbora Krejcikova faces uncertainty as she steps onto the court after a difficult spell with injuries. The Czech player has struggled to maintain form since winning Wimbledon in 2024 and has only competed in six matches so far this season. A recent thigh issue forced her withdrawal from the Eastbourne Open, raising concerns about her fitness ahead of her opening match against Alexandra Eala.

Despite the setback, Krejcikova is optimistic about her recovery. “I had to have a couple of days off where I didn’t really play any tennis, but I did some off-court stuff. I’ve been feeling every day a little bit better,” she noted. However, her opponent, 20-year-old Alexandra Eala, poses a serious threat. The rising Filipina star recently reached the final in Eastbourne and made waves earlier this year with a semifinal run at the Miami Open.

In summary, day two of Wimbledon 2025 features high-stakes action with Novak Djokovic aiming for tennis immortality, Jannik Sinner looking to assert his dominance on grass, and Barbora Krejcikova fighting to defend her crown amid physical challenges. The tournament is already brimming with anticipation and drama as the world’s best vie for glory on tennis’ most prestigious stage.
