Noskova, Muchova Send Czech Republic Into Billie Jean King Cup Final

Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova powered the Czech Republic into the Billie Jean King Cup final for the first time since 2018 after defeating Spain 2-0 in their semifinal in Shenzhen on Friday.

Muchova gave the Czechs the perfect start by overcoming Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 7-5, 6-4. The world No. 8 recovered from an early 2-4 deficit in the opening set before breaking in the 11th game to take control of the match.

The second set remained closely contested, but Muchova held her nerve to complete the victory and put Czechia one win away from the final. It was her first Billie Jean King Cup appearance since 2022.

Noskova then sealed the tie with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Spain's Cristina Bucsa. The Wimbledon champion had led 5-2 in the opening set before Bucsa fought back, but Noskova claimed the tiebreak before taking control in the second set.

The 21-year-old extended her winning streak in Billie Jean King Cup singles to seven matches. Her victory also secured the Czech Republic's place in Sunday's final, where they will face either Ukraine or defending champions Italy.

Czechia, who have won the competition 11 times, are now targeting their first title since 2018. The nation dominated the tournament between 2011 and 2018, collecting six championships during that period.

Muchova said reaching the final would be particularly meaningful given the success enjoyed by previous generations of Czech players. Noskova, meanwhile, said the team would focus on enjoying the occasion while remaining committed to their style of tennis.

Spain had reached the semifinals for the first time since 2008 after defeating Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. Their campaign ended against a Czech team featuring two WTA top-10 singles players.

The second semifinal between Ukraine and Italy will be played on Saturday, with the final scheduled for Sunday at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre. Italy are seeking a fourth consecutive final appearance and a third straight title.
