Nigeria Top Group C to Reach Billie Jean King Cup Knockout Stage

Nigeria finished as Group C winners at the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III Qualifier after an impressive 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten Madagascar in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Nigerian team maintained its perfect record in the group stage, sealing qualification for the knockout phase with another commanding performance against one of the tournament's strongest teams.

Success Ogunjobi gave Nigeria the ideal start by producing a remarkable comeback in the opening singles match. After dropping the first set 3-6, she responded strongly to claim the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3, handing Nigeria an important early advantage.

Oyinlomo Quadre then secured qualification for the knockout stage with a composed display in the second singles match. The Nigerian star defeated Iariniaina Tsantaniony 6-3, 6-3 to give her team an unassailable 2-0 lead.

With qualification already secured, the doubles encounter determined the Group C winner. Quadre teamed up with Khadijat to complete a dominant team performance, overpowering the Madagascan pair 6-2, 6-0 to wrap up a comprehensive clean sweep.

The victory confirmed Nigeria as Group C champions after an unbeaten run through the group stage. The team displayed consistency in both singles and doubles matches, highlighting its strength ahead of the knockout rounds.

Ogunjobi's resilience in recovering from a set down and Quadre's composed performances in both singles and doubles proved decisive as Nigeria completed one of its strongest displays of the tournament.

The result also underlines Nigeria's growing reputation in African women's tennis, with the team demonstrating depth, determination and quality throughout the group phase.

Attention will now shift to the knockout stage, where Nigeria will be aiming to maintain its unbeaten run and move closer to securing promotion from the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III Qualifier.
