Nigeria Draw El Salvador in Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs

Nigeria have been drawn against El Salvador in the 2027 Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs following their recent defeat to Morocco. The draw was conducted at the World Tennis offices in London on Monday, September 28.

The Nigerian team will travel to El Salvador for the tie after being placed in an away matchup. El Salvador were seeded fifth for the World Group II Playoffs, while Nigeria entered the draw among the unseeded nations.

The tie will be played between February 5 and 7, 2027. The home nation will determine whether the matches are staged on February 5-6 or February 6-7.

Nigeria's upcoming playoff follows their 0-4 defeat to Morocco in Rabat. That result ended their latest campaign at that stage and left the team needing another route back into World Group II.

The playoff against El Salvador now gives Nigeria another opportunity to move closer to the second tier of the Davis Cup competition. A victory would secure promotion to the World Group II ties scheduled for September 2027.

The World Group II playoff draw features 26 nations competing in 13 home-or-away ties. Other matchups include Israel against Senegal, Egypt against Iran, Hong Kong, China against Namibia and Estonia against Venezuela.

Nigeria will have to produce a strong away performance against an El Salvador side that was seeded for the draw. The tie will be played under the Davis Cup home-or-away format, with the winner advancing to the next stage of the 2027 competition.

For Nigeria, the February tie represents an opportunity to recover from the setback against Morocco and continue their push toward World Group II. The team will need to prepare carefully for the away assignment as it seeks to secure promotion in the next Davis Cup cycle.
