Nigeria is ramping up efforts to develop the next generation of tennis stars with the announcement of a four-week Junior International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament series to be staged in Abuja and Lagos.
The initiative is designed to give young Nigerian players greater access to high-level competition on home soil, while also drawing emerging talents from across the world to compete in the country.
Action will begin in Abuja from June 1 to June 13, where the Federal Capital Territory will host two legs of the J30 events.
The competitions are expected to offer participants the opportunity to earn valuable international ranking points and gain critical match experience.
Beyond competition, the tournaments are seen as a strategic step toward deepening grassroots tennis development in Nigeria, while positioning the country as an attractive hub for international junior events.
With both Abuja and Lagos set to host the series, stakeholders believe the exposure and experience gained will play a key role in nurturing future champions and elevating Nigeria’s profile in global tennis.
This initiative underscores Nigeria's commitment to creating sustainable pathways for youth excellence in sports. By hosting these international events, the nation continues to provide the necessary platform for local athletes to transition successfully to the global stage.
