Naomi Osaka, Madison Keys to return to grass-court action at Eastbourne

Posted : 12 March 2024

Former world number one Naomi Osaka is set to return to grass-court tennis after almost five years, alongside defending champion Madison Keys, at the Eastbourne International in June. Keys, 29, secured the women's title at the 2023 tournament by defeating Daria Kasatkina in the final.

For Osaka, 26, this marks her first grass-court appearance since Wimbledon in 2019. The Eastbourne International serves as the final warm-up event before the prestigious Wimbledon championship, which commences on July 1.

Madison Keys, currently ranked 20th globally, has triumphed twice at Eastbourne, claiming her first WTA title at the tournament in 2014. Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam winner, previously participated in Eastbourne in 2017, reaching the second round.

The week-long event, starting on June 24, provides players with a crucial opportunity to adapt to grass conditions before the Wimbledon competition kicks off. The confirmation of Osaka's and Keys' participation adds excitement to the Eastbourne International and enhances the competition in the women's draw.
