Naomi Osaka, Jessica Pegula Withdraw from Queen’s Club Women’s Tournament

Posted : 05 June 2025

Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula, two of the biggest names in women's tennis, have withdrawn from the upcoming WTA 500 tournament at Queen’s Club. Pegula, who was expected to be the top seed, exited the French Open in the fourth round earlier this week and has since shared her experience of online abuse following the unexpected loss.

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, was granted a wild card entry but decided to pull out after expressing dissatisfaction with her performance at Roland Garros, where she suffered a disappointing defeat to Paula Badosa.

Their withdrawal is a setback for Queen's Club, which is hosting a women’s event for the first time in 52 years. The tournament, traditionally a men’s-only affair, has added a women’s week ahead of Wimbledon in an effort to expand its appeal. With Osaka and Pegula out, attention now shifts to other stars in the field, including reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, past All England Club winners Elena Rybakina and Petra Kvitova, and top-10 contenders Madison Keys, Emma Navarro, and Zheng Qinwen.

Tournament officials confirmed the absences via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, acknowledging the disappointment while highlighting the strength of the remaining field. The WTA event begins Monday, followed by the men’s ATP tournament the week after, maintaining Queen’s role as a key stop on the road to Wimbledon.
