Muchova, Mensik Win US Open Mixed Doubles Title

Posted : 27 August 2026

Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik claimed the 2026 US Open mixed doubles championship on Wednesday, securing their first Grand Slam title as a partnership after a dramatic run in New York. The Czech duo defeated Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 in the final.

Muchova and Mensik had to produce their best tennis under pressure to reach the final. Earlier in the evening, they recovered from 3-0 and 8-5 deficits in the deciding match tiebreak against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, saving two match points before completing an 11-9 victory.

The Czechs started the final strongly, taking the opening set 6-3, but Bencic and Cobolli responded emphatically by winning the second 6-1. Muchova and Mensik then held their nerve in the deciding 10-point tiebreak, eventually finishing 10-6 to secure the championship.

Mensik delivered the decisive blow with a powerful ace into Bencic's backhand corner. The victory was particularly significant for both players, as neither had previously won a Grand Slam title. Muchova had come close in singles earlier this year, reaching the Wimbledon final before losing to fellow Czech Linda Noskova.

The revamped mixed doubles competition was designed to attract leading singles players, using shorter matches and a condensed schedule ahead of the main US Open tournament. Several high-profile combinations, including Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz as well as Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka, exited before the final stages.

The Czech pair also took home the event's $1 million prize. Muchova joked during the trophy ceremony that their matching pink and maroon outfits had played a part in their success, adding a light-hearted touch to an otherwise tense night.
