Morocco Seal Davis Cup Victory Over Nigeria With Decisive Doubles Win

Posted : 21 September 2026

Morocco secured a 3-0 victory over Nigeria in their Davis Cup World Group II tie after winning the decisive doubles rubber in Rabat on Sunday. Younes Lalami and Yassine Dlimi defeated Nigeria's Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar 6-3, 6-2 at the Club des Cheminots.

The doubles result gave Morocco the third point required to settle the tie. The hosts therefore secured their place in the World Group I playoffs, scheduled for February 2027, before the two remaining singles matches were played.

Morocco controlled the doubles contest from the opening set. The Nigerian pair struggled to match the hosts' consistency as Lalami and Dlimi established their advantage before closing out the match in straight sets.

The victory completed a strong weekend for Morocco after the hosts won both singles matches on Saturday. Karim Bennani defeated Nigeria's Canice Abua 6-1, 6-2, while Yassine Dlimi beat Daniel Adele to give Morocco a 2-0 lead heading into Sunday's action.

Nigeria had been hoping to end a long wait for a victory over Morocco in the Davis Cup. The team entered the tie in Rabat seeking a place in the next stage of the competition but was unable to overcome the hosts' early advantage.

The Nigerian team also dealt with a late selection setback before the tie. Daniel Adeleye withdrew because of a recurring wrist injury, leading to Abubakar Yusuf replacing him in the opening singles line-up.

Morocco's qualification means the team will now compete in the World Group I playoffs in February 2027. Nigeria, meanwhile, will have to regroup after being unable to secure the victory needed to advance from World Group II.

The result also underlined Morocco's strong start to the tie on home soil. With victories across the opening two singles matches and the doubles rubber, the hosts completed the required three points without needing the final two singles encounters.
