Daniil Medvedev delivered a dominant performance against Jenson Brooksby on Thursday, winning 6-2, 6-1 to advance to his third semifinal at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The former world No. 1, who has captured 22 career titles but never defended a trophy successfully, is aiming to claim a second Dubai title following his 2023 triumph. Medvedev credited his strong showing to disciplined play and focus, despite acknowledging possible issues on Brooksby’s side with his serve.
In just 28 minutes, Medvedev secured the opening set with two breaks of serve and maintained his momentum in the second, closing out the match in 57 minutes.
This victory marks the 53rd hard-court semifinal of his career, placing him behind only Novak Djokovic among active players. Medvedev reflected on his journey toward consistency, noting the challenge of balancing experience with the freer, instinctive style of his early career.
The 30-year-old Russian will now face top-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime, who reached his second consecutive Dubai semifinal by defeating Czech eighth seed Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 7-6 (7/2).
The Canadian, ranked world No. 8, has enjoyed an exceptional run this month, including a title in Montpellier and a runner-up finish in Rotterdam, and showcased his serving prowess with 16 aces and 83% first-serve points won. Auger-Aliassime remains cautious against Medvedev, citing their 2-7 head-to-head record.
Meanwhile, fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev continued his perfect record against Arthur Rinderknech with a 6-2, 6-4 win, advancing to his fifth Dubai semifinal.
Rublev will face Tallon Griekspoor, who replicated his run to the semifinals from last year by defeating sixth seed Jakub Mensik 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, keeping the final four at the Dubai Championships highly competitive.
