Top seed Mathew Kuti, the defending champion of the Africa Table Tennis Invitational Tournament, has progressed to the knockout stage along with other top players as the competition enters its final phase. The event concludes on Monday at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta.
The annual tournament, which began on Saturday, started with 25 participants. So far, eight players have advanced to the quarter-final stage, showcasing high-level performances throughout the early rounds.
Tournament coordinator Coach Wale Ajetunmobi described the final day as promising to be highly thrilling and competitive. “What we saw in the early stages gives us a clear idea of what to expect in the finals,” he said. “The top seeds are still in contention, and we anticipate a charged atmosphere that will motivate the players to elevate their performance.”
Ajetunmobi also expressed gratitude to the tournament sponsors in the diaspora for their support. “It has been a very good event, and we thank our sponsors who are keen on developing the game and nurturing future champions,” he added.
