Luca Van Assche Claims Maiden ATP Title as Lilli Tagger Secures First WTA Crown

French tennis player Luca Van Assche captured the first ATP Tour title of his career after defeating Belgium’s Alexander Blockx 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in the Estoril ATP 250 final on Sunday. The hard-fought victory marked a significant milestone for the 22-year-old, who is expected to climb to world No. 48 in the ATP rankings following his triumph.

Van Assche reflected on a memorable week in Portugal, revealing that his opening-round match lasted three hours and 30 minutes. He also highlighted his special connection with the country, where he previously won his first junior title before adding his maiden ATP trophy.

“I’ve had an incredible week. My first match on Monday lasted three hours and 30 minutes. I love playing in Portugal. I won my first junior title here, and now I’ve won my first ATP title,” Van Assche said.

In Prague, Austrian teenager Lilli Tagger also celebrated a career breakthrough by claiming her first senior singles title. The 18-year-old defeated Ukraine’s Daria Snigur 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 in the Prague Open final on Sunday.

Snigur, appearing in her first WTA Tour final, made a strong start by opening a 5-2 advantage in the first set. However, she failed to create a set point as Tagger mounted an impressive comeback, winning three straight games to level the score.

After both players comfortably held serve to force a tiebreak, Tagger took control by racing into a 5-1 lead before converting her first set point to move ahead in the match.

The 2025 Roland Garros girls’ champion maintained her momentum in the second set, breaking serve in the fourth game. Powered by nine aces, Tagger held comfortably in her service games before earning another break in the eighth game to seal the victory in one hour and 29 minutes, securing the first WTA singles title of her career.
