Lloyd Harris Exits US Open After Tough Battle With Tsitsipas

South Africa’s Lloyd Harris produced several spectacular moments but was unable to overcome former world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of the 2026 US Open.

Harris made a strong start by taking the opening set in a tense tiebreak, but Tsitsipas gradually turned the contest around. The Greek won the next two sets, including another tiebreak in the third, before securing the decisive break in the fourth set to complete a 6-7(1), 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-4 victory.

The match lasted three hours and 27 minutes, with both players producing high-quality tennis. Harris finished with 37 winners and 13 aces, while Tsitsipas hit 57 winners and converted five of his 17 break-point opportunities.

Despite the defeat, Harris provided plenty of entertainment, including a brilliant point that highlighted the quality he was capable of producing against the experienced Greek. Tsitsipas, meanwhile, advanced to the US Open third round for the first time in five years.
