Linda Noskova Leads Czech Republic Into Billie Jean King Cup Semifinals

Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova sealed the Czech Republic’s place in the Billie Jean King Cup semifinals after defeating Great Britain’s Katie Boulter 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in Shenzhen on Tuesday. Her victory completed a 2-0 quarterfinal win for the Czechs.

Noskova, ranked sixth in the world, produced a strong serving display with 15 aces and did not face a break point throughout the match. After controlling the opening set, she held her nerve in a tighter second set before prevailing in the tiebreak.

Marie Bouzkova had earlier put Czech Republic ahead by beating Sonay Kartal 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-4 in a contest lasting almost three hours. Kartal was competing for the first time in six months after recovering from a spinal stress fracture.

Czech captain Barbora Strycova opted for Bouzkova instead of world No. 8 Karolina Muchova in the second singles spot, and the decision paid off as Bouzkova secured the opening point.

The Czech Republic will face either Kazakhstan or Spain in the semifinals as they continue their pursuit of a 12th Billie Jean King Cup title.

Quarterfinal action continues in Shenzhen with Spain facing Kazakhstan, while Ukraine meet Belgium and defending champions Italy take on hosts China. Italy are seeking a third consecutive title, with Jasmine Paolini expecting a difficult contest against Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen.
