Lagos set to host 2nd National Deaf Table Tennis Championship on Friday

Posted : 11 December 2024

All is now set for the 2nd edition of the National Deaf Table Tennis Championship, which will be held from December 13-14, 2024, at the knock-up hall of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.

The President of the Deaf Supporters Development Initiative (DSDI), Afolabi Dahunsi, and the Chairman, Amuda Yusuf Ibrahim, still basking in the euphoria of the recently organized successful West Africa Deaf Football/Athletics Championship held in Lagos under his leadership, said that this year's championship is aimed at celebrating the 2024 International Day for Persons with Disabilities, which is observed on December 3rd each year.

The championship is also designed to amplify the leadership potential of Deaf individuals in society, demonstrating that they can become celebrities in the modern world through active participation in sports.

"Players have since been invited from the six geopolitical zones to participate in the two-day championship scheduled for December 13 and 14, 2024."

This year’s championship is being held in conjunction with the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF) and the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), which are providing technical support.

Like the maiden edition held in 2023, winners will go home with cash awards, trophies, and certificates.

Meanwhile, due to the numerous challenges confronting deaf athletes in the country, the organizers are appealing to corporate organizations and well-meaning individuals to support deaf sports through sponsorships and donations in order to harness and expose the hidden talents that abound.
