Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu are set to compete in a historic women's tournament at Queen's Club in June, marking the return of women's tennis to the venue for the first time in over five decades. The tournament, scheduled from June 7-15, will also feature Australian Open champion Madison Keys, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka, and last year’s Eastbourne champion Daria Kasatkina. The last time a women’s event was held at Queen’s Club was in 1973 when Olga Morozova won the singles title.
Boulter, who has been Britain's top-ranked female player since June 2023, expressed her excitement about competing at such a prestigious venue. She recalled watching the men’s tournament as a child and described it as an honor to be part of an event that enhances the British grass-court season. With three WTA titles to her name, including back-to-back victories in Nottingham, Boulter hopes to make history by claiming the title at Queen’s.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, continues her comeback from injury and had a strong grass-court season last year, reaching the semi-finals in Nottingham, the quarter-finals in Eastbourne, and the fourth round at Wimbledon. Her participation in the tournament adds to the excitement, as she joins a competitive field featuring multiple Grand Slam champions.
Tournament director Laura Robson highlighted the significance of the event, stating that it promises to be a thrilling return for women's tennis at Queen’s. She emphasized that the lineup, which includes three major champions and Britain’s top player, will offer fans a high-quality competition. The tournament was officially reinstated in May 2024 following discussions with the ATP about its impact on the men's event scheduled for the following week.
