World No. 2 Jannik Sinner will miss the 2025 Davis Cup Finals, with Italy naming a strong squad for Bologna.
Jannik Sinner has confirmed that he will not participate in this year’s Davis Cup Finals, with reigning champions Italy announcing his absence in Monday’s team release. The 21-year-old, ranked world No. 2, helped Italy successfully defend their title last year in Spain, but he will miss the Final 8 event in Bologna from November 18-23.
Italian captain Filippo Volandri expressed confidence in his squad despite Sinner’s absence. “Jannik Sinner has not given his availability for 2025,” Volandri said. “The Davis Cup is, and will always remain, his home. I am sure that Jannik will soon rejoin the team. In the meantime, I can rely on a group ready to fight and give everything for the blue jersey.”
Italy’s squad for the Finals includes Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Andrea Vavassori. Sinner, who won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year and reached the final of all four Grand Slams, will instead focus on defending his ATP Finals title in Turin a week before the Davis Cup. Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, also qualified for the ATP Finals, will lead his national team alongside Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers, aiming to win Spain’s first Davis Cup since 2019.
Germany, meanwhile, will feature world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, making his debut at the Davis Cup Finals. The quarterfinal draw for the Final 8 is as follows: Italy (1) vs Austria, France (3) vs Belgium, Spain vs Czech Republic (4), and Argentina vs Germany (2). Tennis fans can expect highly competitive matches as the top players vie for national glory in Bologna.
