World Number 2 Jannik Sinner etched his name into the record books on Monday night at the Miami Open. By defeating Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4 in the third round, the Italian secured his 26th consecutive set win at the ATP Masters 1000 level. This achievement moves him past Novak Djokovic, who previously held the record with 24 straight sets during the 2016 season.
Sinner’s remarkable streak began during his title-winning run at the Paris Masters last November. He maintained this perfection through his recent victory at Indian Wells, where he captured the trophy without dropping a single set across six matches. After tying Djokovic’s mark in his opening match in Miami against Damir Dzumhur, Sinner finally claimed the record outright during his 71-minute masterclass against Moutet.
Against the Frenchman, Sinner displayed the clinical form that has defined his 2026 season. He won five consecutive games in the opening set to take total control of the match. While Moutet provided stiffer resistance in the second set, a single break of serve at 2-all was enough for Sinner to see out the victory. The Italian was dominant on his own delivery, winning 87% of his first-serve points and facing only one break point the entire evening.
The victory also extends Sinner's impressive winning streak against left-handed opponents to 21 matches. Despite the historical significance of the night, the 24-year-old remained humble during his post-match interview. He noted that while he is happy with the performance, he does not play specifically for records, emphasizing that tennis remains an unpredictable sport where focus must stay high.
Sinner now advances to the fourth round, where he is scheduled to face American Alex Michelsen on Tuesday. Michelsen earned his spot by coming from behind to defeat Chile's Alejandro Tabilo in three sets. With Carlos Alcaraz suffering a surprise early exit on Sunday, Sinner remains the heavy favorite to secure the "Sunshine Double" and continue closing the gap in the race for the World Number 1 ranking.
