Jannik Sinner Ends 2026 Season Early Due to Knee Injury

Posted : 06 October 2026

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 season early as he undergoes treatment for an ongoing right knee injury. The Italian has not competed since successfully defending his Wimbledon title in July and says the decision was made with his long-term career in mind.

Sinner said he and his medical team agreed that he needs a course of treatment for inflammation in his knee. The 25-year-old will therefore miss the remaining European indoor tournaments, the ATP Finals in Turin and other events scheduled before the end of the season, with his focus now shifting toward a full recovery for 2027.

Despite the injury setback, Sinner has enjoyed a remarkable 2026 campaign, compiling a 44-3 record and winning six titles. He captured Masters 1000 trophies in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome before defeating Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon to claim his fifth Grand Slam title.

His absence could also cost him the year-end No. 1 ranking, with Zverev now in position to overtake him during the closing weeks of the season. Sinner's decision means he will have to wait until 2027 to return to competitive action as he prioritises his recovery.
