Jack Draper Withdraws from Toronto, Cincinnati, Eyes US Open Return

Posted : 21 July 2025

British number one Jack Draper has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming ATP Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati after sustaining an injury to his left arm. Despite the setback, the 23-year-old remains optimistic about making a full recovery ahead of the US Open, which kicks off on August 24.

Draper revealed the news through a social media post, explaining that the injury occurred following his Wimbledon campaign earlier this summer. “After Wimbledon, I picked up an injury in my left arm,” he said. “It’s nothing serious, but I need to ensure it heals properly so I’m ready for the rest of the season.”

The Canadian Open is scheduled to begin on July 26, with the Cincinnati Open following shortly after on August 4. Draper’s absence comes after a disappointing early exit from Wimbledon, where he was defeated in the second round by Croatia’s Marin Cilic in four sets.

Despite the recent setback, Draper will be looking to replicate or improve on his impressive performance at last year’s US Open, where he made a breakthrough run to the semi-finals in 2024.

He’s not alone in stepping away from the summer hard-court events. Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic have also confirmed they will not be participating in the Canadian Open, leaving the draw without some of its top contenders.

As Draper continues his recovery, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if the rising British star can return to form in time for the final Grand Slam of the season.
