Jack Draper Stuns Novak Djokovic to Reach Indian Wells Fourth Round

Posted : 12 March 2026

Jack Draper produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Novak Djokovic and advance to the fourth round at Indian Wells, in what the British player described as “a real big moment” in his season. Draper overcame the 24-time Grand Slam champion 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in a two-hour-and-35-minute contest that tested both players physically and mentally.

Djokovic, a five-time Indian Wells champion, had previously beaten Draper in their only other meeting at Wimbledon in 2021. Draper, now world number 14, is rebuilding his season after an eight-month struggle with an arm injury, making this victory all the more significant. “To beat Novak is something that is mind-blowing,” Draper said, reflecting on facing a player he had idolized since childhood. “It’s something I will probably look back on in a few months and think this is a real big moment for me.”

The match began in Djokovic’s favor, with the Serbian winning 87% of points on his serve to take the first set. Draper, however, elevated his game in the second set and forced a deciding set after a tense 26-shot rally highlighted the quality of the contest. Draper broke Djokovic’s serve in the final set, and despite being broken himself at 5-4, he regrouped to prevail in a tie-break.

Draper will now face former world number one Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals, while fellow Briton Cameron Norrie prepares to take on world number one Carlos Alcaraz. Reflecting on his performance, Draper said, “It was a real physical battle, there were definitely a lot of ups and downs in the match. To come through that match is something I will never forget.”

Djokovic acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter, noting the toll of the extended rallies. “It cost me a break after… just unfortunate few mistakes from my side,” he said. “He is playing at a great level. Just, overall, a great player, great guy.”

Draper’s triumph at Indian Wells marks a significant boost for the British star, signaling his return to form and highlighting his resilience against one of the sport’s all-time greats.
