Jack Draper Withdraws from Australian Open

Posted : 27 December 2025

British men’s number one Jack Draper has confirmed he will miss next month’s Australian Open after deciding not to rush his return from a persistent arm injury. The 24-year-old has featured in only one singles match since Wimbledon and had been working toward a comeback in time for the first Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne.

However, Draper revealed in a video shared on social media that the injury has proven more complicated than expected. He explained that, after careful discussions with his team, the decision was made to skip the trip to Australia, describing it as an extremely difficult call to make.

The world number 10 said the injury, which brought his 2025 season to an early close, is the most demanding he has faced in his career. While acknowledging the significance of the Australian Open, Draper admitted that returning straight into the physical demands of best-of-five-set tennis would not be a sensible step at this stage of his recovery.

Draper first experienced problems in his upper left serving arm during the clay-court swing earlier in the year. Although he attempted a comeback at the US Open in late August—competing in both singles and mixed doubles—he was forced to withdraw as the discomfort persisted.

His fitness concerns also led him to pull out of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown grand final in London in December, where he said he was not yet ready to compete at full intensity. Despite the setbacks, Draper stressed that he is now close to the final stages of rehabilitation but needs more time to fully protect his long-term health.

Earlier in the season, Draper enjoyed the most successful spell of his career, climbing to a career-best world ranking of four in June. He also claimed his first Masters 1000 title in March, defeating Denmark’s Holger Rune in the Indian Wells final, underlining his potential when fully fit.
