Iga Swiatek Wins First WTA Title of 2026 at Canadian Open

Iga Swiatek ended her wait for a title by defeating world No. 2 Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the Canadian Open final in Toronto. The Polish star controlled the match throughout, securing her first championship of the 2026 season in just 75 minutes.

Swiatek made an impressive start, breaking Rybakina early and taking advantage of her opponent's errors to claim the opening set in 29 minutes. The Kazakh struggled to find consistency, while Swiatek remained composed and did not allow her to establish any sustained momentum.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Swiatek breaking at 2-2 before maintaining control. Rybakina was unable to earn a break point in the set as Swiatek closed out the victory to secure the 26th title of her career.

The triumph also marks Swiatek's 12th WTA 1000 title, moving her ahead of Aryna Sabalenka for second place on the all-time list behind Serena Williams. The result provides a major confidence boost for the six-time Grand Slam champion ahead of the US Open later this month.
